Cancer Cells Reprogram Glycolysis for Rapid Growth and Survival

Abstract

Cancer is a disease characterized by uncontrolled cell proliferation, evasion of cell death and metabolic reprogramming. One of the most striking changes observed in cancer cells is their preference for glycolysis, even in the presence of ample oxygen. This phenomenon, known as the “Warburg effect,” reflects the ability of cancer cells to reprogram their energy metabolism to support rapid growth, survival and invasion. Understanding how glycolysis is reprogrammed in cancer cells offers important insights into tumor biology and potential therapeutic targets.
